Narrative Based
This suits the narrative field because it tells a story throughout the whole music video. It is very similar to a mini-film, as it has a beginning, middle and end, another example is Oasis- 'Stand By Me'. It tells the story in the lyrics and dramatizes he video itself. Another example of a narrative based music video is 'When You're Gone' by Avrill Lavingne. At the beginning of the music video the piano plays the prelude, at the same time an established shot of a big house and a couple standing outside the door is presented. The colour of the frame is dark and grey and therefore hints that the story being told is going to be a depressing sad story.
ANIMATED
Animation music videos use digital or either motion animation instead of real life footage. 'A Thousand Years' by Christina Perri is an example of an animated music video that uses digital animations. This concept creates more meaning and desire to the music video. It allows the artist to be creative, although the process of making a animated music video takes time. It also shows the viewers and insight into the artists mind and imagination.
Another animated music video I would like to include is 'Feel Good Inc' by Gorillaz. It is one of my favourite music videos, simply because of the creativity and different style of a music video, when first came out I was in awe and amazed by it, as it wasn't the norm nor popular type of music video as it requires a lot of time and effort. I believe that animated music videos are similar to abstract concept, as it creates wonder and creativity, however I also believe that they can also tell a story. Which is seen in A Thousand Years and Feel Good Inc.
Parody- Parody music videos are music videos that mock another artists song or actions. As seen in the video below. Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar are being mocked by two people in their song 'Bad Blood'. In this music video we can see just how bad the parody and mocking from the bad costumes to the bad singing. In this parody it gets a little personal as it also mocks the other celebrities that were featured in the song. Not only does the music video mock with bad singing, it also remixed the whole song and talks about Taylor Swift's personal life. From this parody we see how harsh and uncomfortable they can be to watch, as the mocking is too personal.
However, not all parodys take mocking personal, and simply stick with mocking the artists songs or music videos. For example 'She Walks Like Rihanna' by The Wanted. In this music video we see how The Wanted mock all 90's bands such as back street boys, and NSYNC. We see this with the all white and them hanging off strings which represents NSYNC's music video 'No Strings Attached' With this parody. You really have to know the bands in order to understand the music video, in comparison to the previous parody that talks about Taylor Swift's personal issues.
Pastiche
Pastiche music videos are based on another time frame or genre. It is prominent in popular culture. Many genre pieces, particularly in fantasy are essentially pastiches. This shows how the music video is dependant on different media products. They create a parody of the media product and without the official media product then the music video would have nothing to compare to. In Tears For Fears= ' Sowing the Seeds Of Love' We see how inspired they were by the beetles and how they have cooperated their work into their music video.
PERFORMANCE BASED
Performance based music videos contain a variety of close up shots of the artist/band and is usually filmed on a stage with them performing to an audience. The is an effective way of advertising the talent of the band, as it similar to them performing live. However, I believe that concept based music videos adds more meaning to the song.
Intertextual
These kinds of music videos shows how one media text is referenced in another. In Wiz Khalifia ft Charlie Puth 'See You Again' we see the use of Fast and Furious constantly being referred to in the music video, as we know the song was used in the film. This music video also tells a story and shows us the journey of Paul Walker and his brother. 'See You Again' shows respect to Paul Walker and acknowledges him throughout the music video.
CONCERT BASED
These kinds of music videos are simply a video of the band or artist playing live in concert. This type of music video is an advertisement of the artist/s and showcases their talents and abilities to perform live. This also shows how well the band can perform live, and this may make decisions for fans or people who want to watch them perform live. It also gives an insight as to what their concerts will be like and also includes footage of the audience.
Cinematic
Cinematic music videos have a much bigger budget and production, they take longer to make than the ordinary music video because of the hard work the whole team and the artist have to go through to make them perfect. They are a sense of feeling like you are at the cinema watching a film. In Madonna 'Like A Prayer' we see how the beginning starts off with Madonna running away from something and hearing sirens in the background, the acting and visuals are hard work and almost seem as if we are watching a movie with actors. In comparison to Lady GaGa Ft Beyonce 'Telephone' we see how the start of the music video starts off cinematic with the giant heading ' Steamline presents' which is what you would see before any movie that you watch. Just like Madonna's 'Like A Prayer' they have both used acting skills and camera angles that make us feel as if we are watching a movie. Another famous example of a cinematic music video is 'Stan' by Eminem.
ABSTRACT/CONCEPT
Abstract/Concept music videos are based upon a single idea or theme, that the audience don't know about or are trying hard to figure out the meaning of it. This is a smart way of advertising the band as it connects with the ideas that the band may be thinking. It also emphasizes the technological advancements and practices that modern music videos are now accustomed too.
